Personal Statement |
Each year I attend CSM I come back with renewed vigor and enthusiasm for our profession. Professionally, this is an exciting time as the technology, treatment and research related to SCI advance rapidly. I look forward to bringing these advances into the clinic as we move forward in evidence based practice. As a nominee for secretary, I look forward to being able to serve this chapter to facilitate collaboration between clinicians, researchers and academia in order to continue to advance the practice of SCI physical therapy. The majority of my 10 years of clinical practice has been spent balancing my energies for growing my clinical skills and promoting return to active living after SCI. This is evidenced by my experience gained from international travel as a caregiver for an individual with SCI, education classes taught for patients and families about travel and leading outings to the airport as a partnership with Continental airlines. I am also part of the clinical team responsible for teaching patient education classes, providing new staff orientation, facilitating annual competency training for staff, teaching student modules at the hospital and for the local PT programs, and I am a faculty member of the TIRR Memorial Hermann Physical Therapy Neurological Residency program. I am involved in the TIRR Education and Research Committees, co-wrote and submitted IRB for a clinical trial using an exoskeleton robot for individuals with SCI. My role as the NeuroRecovery Network (NRN) Clinical Supervisor has allowed me to be a part of implementing research and outcome measures into daily clinical practice. These opportunities have provided me with diverse experiences. I look forward to continued investment into this area of specialty practice. Thank you for your consideration. |
