Poll: Clubs Assistant
Candidate D

Hi all! I am a third year Criminology student at VU and would like to tell you about why I would like to apply to become your potential future Clubs Assistant! Firstly, I have been involved with VU throughout 2024 as a Student Ambassador, volunteering at the beginning of the year, being apart of Dictum Society as a Secretary (now Vice President!), and lastly as a V4U day team leader. Throughout my endeavours, I have met many people who I can call my lifelong friends and invaluable mentors along the way. Besides my involvement at Victoria University, a few of my hobbies include gaming, arts and crafts, collecting cute things and experiencing something new- whether it’s new foods, or travelling! In the future, I hope to work closely with my passions. In my area of study, I have a great interest in digital criminology and youth justice. In a nutshell, I am greatly interested in becoming a potential Clubs Assistant in 2025 as it would be a great honour to help students at VU get the most out of their studies by involving themselves in our vibrant student life. As I am part of countless of clubs at VU, I hope to make it a more seamless experience by helping our club committees have bigger and fun events, and to make the setup an easy task- sometimes, events are difficult to plan. I want to ensure that other tasks such as keeping the database, data entry and reporting will be done efficiently and effectively. Thank you for reading my statement of intent and I would be more than happy to tell you more about myself if needed.
Candidate C

I am a current fourth-year Law and Arts student applying for the Clubs Assistant role for 2025. As someone who has experienced university life for a while, I am incredibly passionate about improving the VU student experience. Currently, I have the privilege of being an Events Assistant at Student Life, and being involved in the Student Consultative Committee. Both of these roles have allowed me to speak to a diverse range of students. In doing so, I have listened to the voices of different cultural and diverse groups, disciplines and study levels, most of which want greater opportunities to connect on campus with other students. I myself, definitely had a hard start to university, as I began my studies during the Covid and know how hard it is to connect with other students outside of a classroom setting.

I want be part of the Clubs team as I have seen the way it has provided students that I work with an excellent way to be involved in university life, in a social and academic sense. My goals would be to connect clubs with staff and provide more ways for students try out different groups. I aim to set up a system for clubs to be integrated into the classroom, linking them up with relevant academic staff and departments. These staff can then provide new students with information about what clubs are available to join as well and also provide the club executives with a network of relevant professional contacts. Additionally, I want to implement a Clubs Week during the start of each semester, where students can drop in and try different clubs freely, on-campus. These pop-ups would allow students to make connections prior to joining a club and encourage them to try new activities in a safe space.

Candidate H

I’m a current student of the Graduate Diploma of Migration Law at the VU City Campus, where I’ve embarked on an interesting, yet challenging journey of chasing my dreams of working in immigration and refugee law as a recent science graduate. Outside of prior engagement with VU Vollies, I’ve taken part in several of volunteer roles from high school sausage sizzles to most recently, working on an 14-hour team project with 39 other volunteers to purchase and assemble 100 bicycles for underprivileged teens in our Western suburbs who lacked consistent transportation to school in August!

My journey at VU has provided me with valuable insights into leadership via the LEAD program, which I’ve been actively taking part of since first hearing of it and engaging with different clubs and workshop activities I encountered on campus.

My interest in being a Vollies Assistant stem from a desire to extend my contributions to VU Vollies as not only a volunteer, but to understand the volunteering experience “from the other side” as an organiser and gain a deeper appreciation for all of the work that is put into doing good for the broader Melbournian community by the good folks at VU Vollies team!

If selected, I aim to further improve upon the streamlined processes of volunteer events at VU and help organise a variety of volunteer activities that are available.
To illustrate, during V4U day, I especially enjoyed how many projects were available and felt it would be incredible if student volunteer opportunities at VU Vollies could collaborate with established charities in Victoria more often such as West Welcome Wagon, who I worked with diligently that day.

My hope is to make a meaningful, lasting impact that reflects the values of our student body and enhance the student experience for everyone.
