I am currently serving as a Senior Lecturer in the School of Nursing, where my responsibilities include holding the position of Associate Head of School, with a primary focus on international engagement. With more than 15 years of experience as an academic, I have accumulated extensive and diverse expertise in learning and teaching. I have also played integral roles in School governance at two institutions (UOW, UTas) and have actively participated in University service. These commitments have involved serving on groups such as Workforce Diversity Reference Group , Safe and Respectful Communities Staff Group, and the Student Mental Health Advisory Group, among others. My proactive involvement in these endeavors underscores my deep commitment to fostering a University environment that is safe and supportive. Additionally, I remain engaged in practice as a mental health nurse in acute inpatient care. My research efforts are centered around enhancing health services, aligning with my core value of social justice, particularly when viewed at an organisational level. Recognising the pivotal role of the Council, I am seeking election as the Academic representative to actively contribute and provide valuable input into its decision-making processes. I bring to this role expertise and extensive experience in the academic role, along with a current understanding of the contemporary issues within the University sector. I am the Dean of Graduate Research at the University—and thus work at the nexus between teaching, research, and community. Besides my academic career, since the late 1990s, I have been engaged as an organisational psychologist and management consultant in a range of sectors, from banking and resources to government and education. My research, consulting, and passion revolves around changes and transformations to workplaces that enhance collaboration, integrity, efficiency, and wellbeing. Therefore, I hope to be able to apply my research and consulting experience to introduce changes that could, ultimately, improve productivity and quality while diminishing workload and stress.

Dear colleagues, I have a BS in Biology (honour CGPA with 3/83 ranking) and an MS in Biotechnology from METU that had a national ranking of 2. Following my PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular biology from the University of Miami in the USA, I completed my first postdoctoral training in molecular imaging by electron microscopy (EM) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (5th public university ranking in the US). My second postdoc was in structural biology using cryo-EM at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). I joined UOW in 2018, and now am an associate professor in SCMB/SMAH and the cryo-EM research group leader in Molecular Horizons. I am very enthusiastic and passionate about the missions of public universities: educating and performing research for public benefit. Unfortunately, universities everywhere are being run as corporations. We are seeing that decisions are becoming made more and more based on financial goals instead of supporting our true missions. Since I joined UOW in 2018, we have faced many challenges. Desperate times call for desperate measures. I saw all UOW staff rising to the challenge, continuing to deliver both teaching and research under difficult circumstances. Our exceptional efforts made that possible. However, our Herculean efforts and workloads we managed during a crisis cannot be normalised – they are not sustainable. I lived in countries on three different continents. I worked at both public universities and government agencies. I have a wide range of computational skills. I am an NTEU member. Together, these give me a broad perspective on governance and computer systems and how they may be improved. If elected, I will represent academics, along with our professional staff and students, as a strong voice conveying our needs and defend academic freedom, reasonable workloads, and non-corporate governance.
