Hi, I’m Dylan McKenna, a second-year student studying Politics, Philosophy and Economics here at La Trobe and I’m running to be your President of the LTSU with CHANGE. Together, we are committed to creating a vibrant and enriching campus life that goes beyond academics. After years of online study and quarantines, campus life has dissolved, but we are on your side and ready to CHANGE that.

Campus life isn’t just about coursework and exams. It’s about building a community that’s why CHANGE is going to
Advocate for the return of the Eagle Bar
Expand the food bank and run weekly BBQ’s so you can access free food and supplies
Organise a range of festivals and events so there’s something for everyone
Run speed friending events to help you meet new people on campus
Provide additional funding and resources for student clubs and societies

For international students it’s vital that we provide tailored support to help make your transition smoother and your time here more rewarding.

That’s why CHANGE will:
Guide you through VISA processes
Provide job placement assistance
Help you master academic referencing
And deliver a vibrant and inclusive campus life

On top of all of this, we are making sure that every person can feel safe and supported on campus. That’s why we are:
Expanding the initiatives like the food bank and emergency financial assistance
Doing weekly BBQ’s with GivesFork
Prioritising safety for women on campus through anonymous complaint boxes and safe spaces
Continuing to collaborate with Share The Dignity and other charities
Develop a reporting system for incidents of sexual assault, harrassment, discrimination and other issues facing queer and trans students

Together, we can build a university culture that is not only academically enriching but also socially fulfilling. Join us in shaping a campus life.

Howdy La Trobe Students, I’m Vitoria-iris Cooke a first-generation University student and your candidate for the position of Education Vice-President.

As Your Queer Officer of 2022, I have been able to reinvigorate the Queer Department overseeing it through a digital transformation, attending rallies such as Trans Day of Visibility, the N.U.S Day for Climate Action and the Sunshine Anti-Nazi Rally, along with hosting the most events and Queer Collectives of the last three years!!

Hi all, I'm Yeshuah Allen Veloso, a second-year student deeply invested in residential life and culture on our campus. While you may recognize me as the mastermind behind the cherished Wednesday Sushi Night, my dedication to representing and advocating for residential students extends far beyond this culinary delight.

I've embarked on this journey because I firmly believe it's time to place the needs of students at the forefront of our university experience. Our ticket ‘CHANGE’ is on your side and we are resolute in our commitment to elevate your welfare and enrich your time at La Trobe.

In my role as your prospective Welfare Vice President, here's what I will fight for:

Expanding Welfare Programs: I will champion the expansion of welfare initiatives, introducing critical support mechanisms such as food banks and emergency financial assistance for students facing hardship. No student should ever go hungry or struggle alone.
Raising Awareness: My mission is to increase awareness of the array of support services available on campus. Every student should effortlessly access the resources they need to thrive.
Fortnightly BBQs with GiveaFork: These gatherings will not only tantalise your taste buds but also contribute to charitable causes. It's about giving back to our community.
Free Access to Contraceptives: Ensuring that university students have free access to contraceptives promotes responsible and safe choices.
Drug Safety and Awareness Campaign: I am committed to educating students about drug safety and fostering a culture of responsible decision-making.
Enhanced Food Bank Facilities: To better serve students in need, I will tirelessly work towards improving and expanding our food bank facilities.
Continued Weekly Sushi Nights: The beloved weekly sushi nights for campus residents will thrive under my leadership.
Sustaining Sexual Health Campaigns: Advocacy for sexual health awareness and resources will remain a top priority.
Empowering Students on Housing Rights: I'll continue to empower you with knowledge about housing rights and assist you in finding suitable lodging.

These initiatives draw upon my extensive experience and unwavering dedication to enhancing your lives. When you cast your vote, remember that you're choosing CHANGE and we are on your side. Our policies will replenish your finances, breathe new life into campus, and amplify the student voice.

Atticus Anderson Prior & Rupesh Dangol (Change)

Dear students of La Trobe University,

I am Atticus Anderson Prior, I have been a student at La Trobe since 2021, studying a double bachelors of Law/Global Studies. During my time as a student of La Trobe I have seen firsthand as a student during the pandemic, President of the La Trobe International Relations Association and General Member of the LTSU how vitally important the Student Union is for our university.

Particularly for the wellbeing of many students and holding the university to account whenever they put unnecessary pressure on students. This is why I am running with CHANGE for the privilege of serving as your Welfare Officer.

In addition to my core commitments of promoting inclusivity, diversity, mental health support, and the policies of fortnightly BBQs and creating better facilities for the already successful LTSU food bank (which has given over 100,000 kgs worth of free food to students this year), I am thrilled to present more vital policies of CHANGE:

Drug Safety and Awareness Campaign
Providing free contraceptives to students
Continuing Sexual Health Campaign
Continuing weekly Sushi nights for students who live on campus

Your support in this election will empower a ticket that is on your side, to bring about positive change in these areas and ensure that La Trobe University continues to be a place where students are well-informed, supported, and safe. Together, we can create a campus environment that promotes healthy choices and provides resources for a diverse and vibrant student community.

Thank you for your attention and consideration. Let's work together to build a brighter, more inclusive, and supportive future for all La Trobe students. Please vote 1 for CHANGE.

Tharun Balasubramanian (Change)

Image for Tharun Balasubramanian (Change)
Hey everyone!! I'm Tharun and I'm running for the position of Education Public Affairs Officer because I believe that education is not just about getting a degree; it's about fostering a vibrant campus culture that enriches the overall student experience.

I'm running with this ticket because I believe in the power of CHANGE. It's not just a buzzword for me; it's a commitment to transforming our campus culture and making it more vibrant, inclusive, and engaging. I understand that it's more than just earning a degree; it's about the entire campus experience.

I want to bring about this change by:
Advocate for Enhanced Placement Opportunities: As your Education Public Affairs Officer, I'll tirelessly work to improve and expand placement opportunities, especially for nursing students. They deserve valuable practical experience to excel in their careers.
Transparency in Disciplinary Meetings: I firmly believe that advocates should have a seat at disciplinary meetings. It's essential for students to have someone who can represent their interests and ensure fair and just proceedings.
Individual Feedback for Students: We've all missed the personalised touch of individual feedback. I aim to bring it back. Every student deserves to know how they can grow and improve.
Community Engagement: I'll foster a sense of community by organising regular events, workshops, and forums where students can voice their concerns and ideas, ensuring their voices are heard.
Access to Resources: I'll work tirelessly to improve access to educational resources, making sure every student can reach their full potential.

With your support, we can make our campus a place where every student thrives. Together, we'll bring about the CHANGE we all want to see. Thank you for considering me for this important role. Let's make our university experience unforgettable! Vote [1] CHANGE for a Ticket that’s on your side.
Lucas Brunning-Halsall (Revive)

Image for Lucas Brunning-Halsall (Revive)
Hi, I'm Lucas and I'm running for the Education (Public Affairs) office!

Our education is getting worse. HECS debts are going up and the cost of an arts degree has doubled. More and more classes are being pushed online to save money, while courses like drama have been scrapped. La Trobe has cut over 500 jobs since 2020, leaving staff massively overworked - teachers are expected to mark a student's work for the whole semester in as little as 32 minutes.

Our university is being run as a for-profit business. La Trobe’s Vice-Chancellor John Dewar and his executives earn up to $900,000 a year, while international students are charged massive fees. And our education is increasingly geared towards the needs of big business - the Bundoora campus is home to research facilities for companies like Honeywell, who make specialist parts for American nuclear bombs, and Rio Tinto, the mining company infamous for blowing up a 46,000-year old sacred Indigenous site.

It doesn't have to be this way. Uni should be made free again and student debt should be wiped - many politicians in Parliament didn't pay a cent for their degree. Rent for residential accommodation should be capped at $100 per week to bring the cost of living down. Our university should be run for people, not profit.

We need activists in the student union to fight for our rights. I've helped lead campaigns against course cuts during the pandemic, against the LTSA and against fossil fuel and weapons companies on campus. Off campus, I've been a part of campaigns for climate justice, for action on the housing crisis and to free refugees.

Dear students of La Trobe University,

I am Xavier Orriss, I am a first-year queer university student studying a bachelors in global studies. The Student Union has assisted me greatly in making me feel included and a part of a safe and encouraging community. Which is why I am running with CHANGE for the privilege of serving as your Social Justice Officer, where I will be given the means to give many students that same great experience that I was fortunate enough to receive. Along with the ability to fight for many initiatives that students care about.

Your support in this election will empower us to bring about these initiatives that will ensure that La Trobe University continues to be a place where students are included, supported, and safe. Alicia Griffiths (Revive)

Hi, I’m Alicia and I’m running for Social Justice Officer with Revive. I’m a longtime socialist and student activist here at La Trobe.

We need to rebuild activist student unionism at La Trobe! Student Unions should be playing a leading role in building activism both on and off campus. Students are facing a worsening climate crisis, a housing crisis that’s sending rental prices through the roof, and a growing far right that’s organising primarily against immigrants and LGBT people. The union should take a principled stand in the fight against these forces.

Historically, student unions at La Trobe have taken a stand against the Vietnam War, hiding draft dodgers in the union building. They fought against course cuts and increased fees in 2014. We’ve been the most successful at defeating these kind of attacks when we’ve had an active protest movement.

In my time at La Trobe I’ve been involved in organising campaigns against the Nazis in Sunshine, campaigns for climate justice, and the fight to kick weapons companies off campus. We need more activists in the student union to bring back a fighting student union!

Vote for a socialist that will fight for the issues students care about.

I'm committed to running for change because I believe that every student deserves equal opportunities and support, regardless of their abilities. Vote for La Trobe Socialists for a student union that builds and supports student activism against racism, sexism, transphobia, the cost of living crisis, and climate change!

Students are facing a cost of living crisis, worsening education standards and higher fees, transphobic and anti-migrant campaigns, and a climate crisis that the rich and powerful will force us to bear the worst of.

These are issues the LTSU needs to fight against, and La Trobe Socialists wants to elect students who will use their positions to promote student activism and who have experience in organising protests.

Our candidates have played key roles in building rallies, speak outs, and protests that have fought for progressive change, and social and economic justice. We helped organise the rallies against transphobe Posie Parker, we built the speak out against La Trobe’s ties to US nuclear weapon manufacturing and demanding welfare not warfare from the Labor government, we campaigned to hundreds of students to build student support for staff strikes at La Trobe, and we have been protesting against the Neo-Nazis and their gym in Sunshine.

The currently elected members of the LTSU have preferred to welcome the new Vice-Chancellor of La Trobe, a strategic advisor to the UK government in their invasion of Afghanistan, and have used their positions to make it harder for smaller tickets to get elected to the LTSU.

If you want a student union that supports student activism and uses its platform to build campaigns for social justice, vote for the La Trobe Socialists candidates.

Vote La Trobe Socialists for a National Union of Students (NUS) that fights for students’ rights!

La Trobe Socialists are running for NUS to help rebuild our student union as an organisation that can wage national campaigns against right-wing attacks on students. We want to promote the kind of action that has been taken by NUS this past year through its LGBTI and Education offices, action that has given students the ability to stand up to those who are trying to make our lives harder.

Socialist activists within NUS in 2023 have coordinated national campaigns like the climate strike, which saw walkouts and rallies across the country to demand an end to fossil fuel production, oil and gas drilling, and an immediate transition to renewable energy.

It was also socialists, including our candidates, who helped build the series of protests that defeated transphobic, far-right bigot Posie Parker. That campaign saw Posie Parker run out of the country with huge showings in Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Sydney, Tasmania, and Melbourne that were started by socialists and activists.

No other factions have shown the same commitment to consistently standing up to attacks on students’ living standards. Members of other tickets from La Trobe in these NUS elections wouldn’t even participate in the campus speak out for welfare not warfare, let alone the national day of action that saw students across the country protest to demand housing, not bombs.

We need an NUS that will not allow the rich, the far-right, and the Albanese government to make students’ lives actively worse. Vote for La Trobe Socialists for a National Union of Students that will actively protest and fight against the destruction of our planet, the rising cost of education and living, and to defend our rights!

Students are facing a massive housing crisis in our lifetimes, grocery prices have surged and thousands of dollars have been added to peoples HECS debt! Meanwhile landlords get huge tax breaks, Coles and Woolies make record profits and our Vice-Chancellor John Dewar earns $850,000 a year!

This year I've helped organise national protests to fight the cost of living crisis, for climate justice and against the far right, as well as supporting our staff in their fight for higher wages!
