As a parent of a senior and a freshman at Arabia Mountain High School (AMHS), I've been able to build relationships with the staff, students and parents through my volunteerism and years at the school. Although everyone has various perspectives, we all ultimately want to increase our children's achievement and performance at AMHS. Also, as a business owner, I've been a business/community partner at AMHS for a few years. Therefore, because of my involvement as an AMHS parent and business/community partner, I have unique qualifications that makes me a great candidate to serve on the Principal Advisory Council.

I have been in some leadership position within DeKalb County for the last 13 years. I have been on the PTA Board in one capacity or the other for at least 10 years from secretary to president. I also served on the PAC at my daughter's middle school. I believe in parent involvement and desire to make sure that all children have a voice as well as a chance at a good education. I have a strong vested interest in the direction Arabia Mountain is going and how that will look for the students and the parents. My son is a current 10th grader at Arabia Mountain HS, and to date, we have been pleased with his growth as a scholar and athlete. I have over 15 years of experience teaching in Georgia. I have taught high school English and college teacher preparation courses at KSU and UGA. I originally moved to Ashford Park in 2008 and am delighted my first born has "joined the nest" as became an APS Eagle this year. I attended public schools K-12 + college, am a big proponent of a quality public education, and appreciate the importance of parent involvement in helping our teachers and administrators achieve the best educational outcomes for our children. It truly takes a village. Over time, I have been active in the local community from sitting on the Chamblee Ethics Committee and PDK Airport Advisory Board to doing local cleanup days and ringing the bell at holidays.

This is my second year as a Briarlake parent. Growing up in a family of public school educators, I’ve seen the benefit of a connected school community. I believe our focus should be more on getting and keeping our kids engaged in academic and athletic activities so as to reduce the temptation for them to engage in negative activities. Students need active participation not just in both academic and athletic activities. Being in an academic club or on a athletic team but not actively participating in the activity is more demoralizing and detrimental than it is encouraging because by not actively involving them in the activity the feel as if their potential is limited.

I have over 22 years of advocacy for APS, FCS and DeKalb County School systems I have an Leadership and organizational skill set Coupled with the tenacity that's needed to motivate change via Parents, Teachers and children. I see their future as being one that can be structured around better education through family first school second and then A support system that has the same vision. My name is Chris Crenchaw and the parent of a junior at CHS. I currently work as a Program and Project Manager in the tech industry and am very interested in seeing CHS promote: the value of innovation, diversity of thought, and making parent/guardian participation and advocacy easier and more accessible. Most of my volunteer activities are through groups at my job, but I'd like to add time and effort at CHS. Previously served on the Tucker HS PAC until last year when we transferred to DHHS. I am an academic administrator, CEO/Director of the Atlanta University Center Woodruff Library. As a parent of a rising 11th grader I am willing to commit the time and effort to advocate to those within and outside of the school building on behalf of DHHS. DCSD-PAC outcomes differ from school to school. Regardless it's essential that parents have an ear and a voice about school policy/practices and goals. I asked of metal detectors back in September, 2023, and have yet to see them implemented. I also met with Principal McCray, asking of accounts and funding for sports, such as track & field, because we were given a New track, with no equipment (blocks, shots, discus, etc), and learned we need active parent involvement. As a single parent of a child, that is just starting out, it is my duty to involve myself in this community to better serve my child along with many kids that he interacts with. I like most parents like to be able to discuss topics including class sizes, parental involvement, safety and discipline, school climate, communication, and special initiatives. With my involvement I would like to make sure that I make a difference for the better for each child that walks through those doors and help mold and change the school for the better.

I have served on the committee prior to Mr. Teal and I am confident that voices and decisions will now be heard with the new and continuing leadership. I've previously volunteered on committees at Midvale Elementary, and my law practice involves counselling educators and schools at all levels on a variety of issues. Before becoming a software engineer, I was a teacher and administrator for 10 years, both in New Orleans Public Schools and in Chile where I was instrumental in founding a holistic education project.
