I have spent time volunteering on the PTA board at Brockett Elementary while my daughter was there, PTA at Evansdale, and I've been a Cub Scout Den Mother as well. In my previous work life I worked in the private sector in tutoring and managing an in-home tutoring service for Kaplan Test Prep where I tutored, and I hired and trained tutors. My experience has put me in both the parent's shoes and teachers.

We met with teachers, administrators, community leaders, and County Leaders within our school system. I also established a mentorship program based on my Principal's recommendation to help female students at our school in Gwinnett County make better choices. On the advisory committee in Miami-Dade County, we were able to stop the county from disregarding our students' scores on FCAT. Establishing "TRUE" (Transformed, Refined, Unique Educated) Girls this program's Bylaws as well as Mission/Vision Statement. Our girls graduated.

I have taught in Dekalb County schools for a period of twenty (20) years and served Towers High School for more than three years. I obtained a doctorate degree in general education this year. My research article entitled "Interpretive phenomenological analysis of educators' perceptions of year-round schools" has been published. It revealed that in the lower socioeconomic neighborhoods where the study was conducted, multiple levels of anxiety, uncertainty, confusion, and withdrawal occurred for all those involved because they did not understand their roles in an unclear educational policy. I plan to share my experiences as teacher and parent.

Greetings! My name is Karessa Carter and I am the media specialist at DUES. This is my 13th year in education and my 5th year as an elementary educator in the DeKalb County School District. I would love to continue in my role as PAC secretary for Doraville United Elementary School. For the past two years, I have served the PAC by scribing the PAC meeting minutes and summaries. As the school webmaster, I have also been responsible for maintaining the strict guidelines PAC page of our school website.

My background includes Education, Non-Profit Management and Entrepreneurship. I volunteered in high school, created my own non-profit during college summers, and developed Literacy Programs serving the Atlanta area, including DCSS and multiple non-profits. Pre-pandemic, I considered opening a school to serve needs frequently overlooked in today's Educational Systems. I believe my experience in Non-Profit Management/Education/Business can facilitate post-pandemic improvement of services we provide our TMS community at large, including atypical Career Readiness options.
