I have a background in nursing and community services. In addition I served as PAC member for the last two years. I believe a school gets better with more parent involvement and I'm excited to grow our relationship with AES. As the daughter of an elementary school teacher (my mom taught for 31 years) I am most excited to help with Teacher Appreciation and filling any needs the teachers may have. My career has always been in an administrative capacity in high stress environments so I'm organized, thoughtful and a great juggler of many tasks! I'm excited to work beside the Foundation as well - my past volunteer experience was primarily fundraising (including chairing an 800+ person gala in Chicago.)
Cedric Matheny

Dallas Smith & Company. My volunteer/civic activities include; the Atlanta Fire and Rescue Advisory Board, Georgia Real Estate Commission, Aerotropolis Atlanta Alliance, and Next Generation Men and Women. My professional career has been in State and Gov’t Banking where I represent other school boards, counties and municipalities for the state of Georgia. I’m excited to assist my Avondale family in any way necessary. Thank you.

I have two young daughters. I grew up in the area attending Oak Grove and Lakeside. I graduated with honors from UGA. I work in media sales and am currently employed by Meta. Part of my role at Meta is volunteering to help drive community impact, for example offering assistance to small business owners and non-profits. I wish to serve on PAC to build a culture at Briarlake that is highly regarded by students, parents and the community. I have a vested interest in seeing the school thrive and have a skill set that would be valuable to the team.
Caroline Collins

As a primary care physician in the community, I hope to serve on the council and use my expertise in child and family development to benefit the school. Eric Nathan

My kids have been in BLES for the last 7 years. I have served on the PTA board for the last 2 years and am looking for a new way to help the school. Having taught high school for 12 years, I can provide a valuable perspective in this role.
Gulelat Shiferaw

Serving the my community at church. I Always interested in helping people and contribute an impact to my next generation.
Joseph Palmer

This is my eighth school year as a Briarlake parent. You elected me to finish a term on the PAC last year. In that year, I've learned how important the PAC is to the school and how it can have a positive impact, including helping get the new exit ramp installed near the playground, having the playground made more inclusive for all of our students over the next few months, and importantly, helping the district narrow the candidates for our next principal. I would be honored, if reelected, to have a chance to continue the work we have started.
Merry Luong

Education was incredibly important to my father who was a math professor in Vietnam and my mother who was an elementary school teacher in Vietnam. I have a M.A. in English and a J.D. I am barred in two jurisdictions. Due to moving here and pandemic, I have not had as many opportunities to volunteer and I am eager to get involved with my daughter's school. Often parents make assumptions about how the school and the community should interact, but I want to be front row listening and advocating for viewpoints that may not have been considered yet.

I am an attorney, U.S. Air Force veteran, and, above all, proud mother of a brilliant Cedar Grove University student who has a current diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder. As a product of public-school systems, I understand the historical challenges that public schools encounter, to include limited resources (human and material) and crowded classrooms. I also learned that the bridge between problem(s) and resolution(s) is often burned due to ineffective communication. As a PAC member, I would motivate students to utilize their resources to excel academically and facilitate and encourage effective communication and positive outcomes between caregivers and teachers.

LaMoniqca Dennis

I want to be involved within my daughters school since she will be there for the next few years. I am interested in helping my community as much as I can. My experience with children has always been positive and I always find a way to connect with them on their level. I keep an open mind and love adding new ideas to the mix. I volunteer at my son's high school (Cedar Grove) when needed and I just want to give that same attention to my daughter's school.
Letrin Mattear

CHARRHONDA FINLEY

La’Teecia Williams-Knox

As a former student of CGMS, & now a parent, I feel that being on the PAC would help bring awareness to the principle of the lack of activities the school has to offer the students. I remember going into CGMS green house doing experiments. We found microscopic animal in the river that was in front of the school. We took educational field trips to the Chattahoochee River.

My name is Ayub Mohammad from Myanmar (Burma) I have been living in Clarkston since February 2012 and community leader. I wanted to be part of the ICES because safety for our children, better education and development for modern school.
Joanna Elmi

I am the parent of a 5th grader and 3rd grader at ICES. Our family has lived in Clarkston for 10 years and we love the community and the school. Clarkston is the most diverse square mile in the United States and it is a privilege to live in such a culturally rich and special environment. ICES staff go above and beyond to help support the children's education and their families. I served on the PAC for the last 2 years and am interested in continuing to serve as a parent advocate for the ICES family.
Rebekah Henderson

I grew up attending public schools and after deciding to go into education myself, was first employed at the elementary school I attended. It was a way to give back to the community that poured into me. In much the same way, I desire to come alongside and support the community we are currently in and my children attend. We moved to Clarkston to serve refugees and this varies from doctors appointments, to grocery runs, to English lessons, but supporting the school is one way of both helping them as well as the staff thrive.

Poll Group: 2022 Fernbank Elementary Parent/Guardian Representative Election

Christine Joshi

Parents matter. In a time where security, health and societal issues are rising, avenues for parental involvement are declining. My core belief is that parents should be a greater part of the process, alongside our wonderful teachers, for addressing these issues at school.

During my career I have solved complex problems relating to healthcare and patient care. I have volunteered for Literacy Volunteers of Atlanta and for Stand Up For Kids as a mentor for homeless students. Now, as a stay-at-home mom, I will apply my time and passion towards ensuring that parents have a voice.
Gayle Rej

I am currently the Community Liaison for MES. I was most recently deployed as a Regional Liaison Officer for the Covid-19 Vaccine Task Force, reporting to the White House. I am also very involved with my sorority where we volunteer in the community and participating in back to school drives. Within this organization, I’ve served as President, Vice President and the community liaison where I assisted in raising funds to assist in purchasing school supplies. I would be honored to be a part of the PAC to assist with community involvement and increasing student achievement and performance.
Andy Harris

Growing up in a smaller area of north Georgia that has since expanded dramatically, we always had a sense of community, close relationships with teachers and staff and my parents felt involved in my school activities. I’d love to help foster that same culture through the PAC. Being a member of this council would allow me to take a more active role in the going forward. I’m looking forward to assisting in the great efforts we continue to see from the s teachers and staff at MES and helping our children thrive here.
Christopher Kehl

After helping both staff and PTA through the years I’ve seen how the good PAC members bridge the gap between staff, parents and the PTO. I think i can do that well, based on my commitments to my own children, as well as helping others during Covid and since.
Josh Brown

PAC representatives first and foremost must be effective communicators and help drive the conversation between parents and the school community. I've spent nearly two decades in the media industry, finding ways to connect broad and varied constituencies and finding common ground to help make progress when it matters most. I think a strong and effective PAC working together with the PTO and all concerned parents can make a big contribution to the welfare of our school and elevate the experience of all involved. I'm eager to help serve this community.
Karla Cwetna

As an academic consultant and an educator of 16 years, I've experienced the power of working WITH parents and teachers to provide the best educational experiences for students. As a parent and PAC hopeful, I know the importance of bridging the communication gap so parents understand what is happening within the school system –and what is possible– so we can best advocate for all children at MES.
My professional experience includes teaching, and facilitating professional learning for teachers, administrators, and state leaders. I hold a PhD in Mathematics Curriculum and Instruction, focused on the roles of parents in mathematics courses.
Maria Bremmon

I am the parent of two boys within DCSD and a healthcare worker. These last few years have taught me that parental involvement is absolutely paramount for the quality and safety of our schools. I am passionate about advocating for an individualized, child centered curriculum and increasing accessibility to mental wellness resources for our children within their schools. If elected, I will advocate for greater teacher support and training in both academics and behavioral support. I will work to open the channels of communication between parents and administrators and create more transparency and accountability for use of our resources.
Maria Stevenson

I have been volunteering for non-profits focusing on the health and wellbeing of Women and Children for over a decade and have more than 20 years of experience in corporate America.
