Policy Statement:
2019 will be an exciting year for all UniSA students.

And I’m seeking your support to be President, as I believe I have the right experience, values and vision to help lead USASA through this transformational time. I’ve been a USASA Representative as well as a Project Officer in Student Engagement and an Academic Integrity Ambassador.

As President, I'll help create a better student experience by:

1) Enhancing USASA’s online student engagement through a more engaging Board Blog and regular video updates

2) Using my excellent working relationships with UniSA decision makers to get your issues fixed - no matter how small. I’ll work to make real progress, especially in the areas of counselling and student services.

4) Enhancing the professionalism of the Board through ongoing evaluations to ensure every board member remains committed to the goals and objectives of the organisation.

With your support, I commit to doing all this and more.

Policy Statement:
What is the life of an international student look like? I used to get the answer from TV, the internet and my friends, who were studying abroad. Until I came here to Australia, having a chance to see the full picture myself, I realized that it was not all pink yet filled with surprises and immense possibilities. In the second month of my stay in Australia, I joined in a volunteer activity in Goolwa without any expectation that I would receive two offers of a free ride home from the locals, which otherwise might take me more than two hours on public transportation on my own. It is hard to describe my feeling at that moment, but it made me feel like home. Being an international student, I can feel your struggles and confusion. I would like to serve you my fellow international mates with full dedication to help you cope with your academic life in UniSA. If elected, I would make it my goal to connect more international friends with locals. Let get the most out of this journey and feel free to explore our potentials. I will try to make our experience here like home.

I aim to support international students' sense of belongingness at UniSA. Recommending events and free services for international students to have fun, making friends, get to know about Australian culture, and get study help.

By taking the role of an International Student Representative, I want to listen to international students' needs and bring it to USASA board members and clubs. Essential qualities I have to meet this goal are my conscientiousness, diligence, justice, optimism, and love of learning.

I’m currently studying a Masters of Professional Accounting. Easygoing, enthusiastic and patient are three main words I would describe myself. I understand the feelings that overseas students first arrive here and what they want. So here I listed some things I would do my effort to improve including:
Recruit more student volunteers before O-week to ensure that every international student has been accorded a cordial reception.
Hold more cross-cultural events for international & domestic students to come together.
Focusing on more events that international students would interested in.
Ensuring any response to the sexual violence project on campus is met with appropriate culturally and linguistically necessary training and support.
Your rights at work campaign for international students.

I would love to listen to the voice of international students and try my best to strive for a better life for you all in UniSA.

Policy Statement:
All alone in a new place, lost amidst new faces.

Every International student of UniSA steps into Adelaide with the mixed bag of emotions. Be it anticipation, anxiety, excitement, or a pure sense of accomplishment, its all because a new chapter is about to begin. A chapter that will define their career and independence. At a time like this, being all alone is not the best feeling.

What they need is a friend, someone with whom they can share their thoughts. Someone just like them.

UniSA prides itself in the diversity of it’s students, who have all made Adelaide their home. Our beauty lies in our diversity. We are a community rich in traditions, culture, ethnic diversity, etc. You name it, we have it!

Doing what’s needed to create an atmosphere so vibrant, yet familiar, so that the international students experience a beautiful transition from their home to our home and continue to create wonderful memories and experiences, that will never be forgotten, will be my prime focus.

I believe this step will also be the change that would make UniSA a cherised home for the hundreds, who have a dream and hope to be a UniSA Student.

Policy Statement:
My name is Aneet Shilpa George, and I am a current student of the Master of Information Technology program. This position for the International Representative would allow me to be a part of a team which represents the voice of the current students, including international student like us, and also which is striving to create a phenomenal environment for the future students of our university. My experiences being a Mentor, University Representative, Student Volunteer and Community Volunteer during the last year have definitely been out of my interest in being helpful by understanding the people around me and their needs.
Being an international student, I believe the most important requirement is to have a candidate that students can trust and feel free to speak with, to ensure that their concerns are addressed more than just being heard. I have been a positive and a motivating person, and I would like to use this opportunity to serve my fellow international friends with integrity and dedicate my time to enhance their study and social life in Australia. On my priority is the need to advocate some essential issues like Cultural and Language Barriers, Community Equality, Job Mentoring, Work-Integrated learning and Accommodation Help.

Lekshmi Raj Shylaja Kumari

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Policy Statement:
I enjoy challenging myself with diverse roles and this exactly has fetched me numerous opportunities to work for cultural and social communities, NGOs and CSRs. After joining UniSA as a Business school student, I feared if facts & figures, management tricks and policies would plug my brain. But no! I realized I can do more and better for lives around me.
I was a part of a core team of 15 members called ‘Reflections’ in IBS Software, which is surprisingly similar to the USASA Board. Starting from budgeting and planning the organizational event calendar for the fiscal year to coordinating events, meets, forums, sports, games and CSR initiatives, I was exposed to all facets of management and leadership duties.
The candidacy for the International Student Representative Position is an ideal opportunity for me to know the pulse of my UniSA, be the voice of International students. I would like to dedicate my actions, thoughts and skills for the betterment of UniSA and student life. While we are all here, gathered at UniSA to accomplish our academic dreams, I would like to add more flairs to the lives here.

Policy Statement:
I am a third year Laws and Business student. As a socialist running with the Left Action team for USASA, I will represent student activists. We stand for the students on campus that want to see a change in the world.

This year I have campaigned for LGBTI rights, refugee rights, Palestinian rights, environmental causes, against education cuts and against university ties to weapons companies.

Through their Defence and Systems Institute (DASI), UniSA has ties to major defence and weapons companies: Lockheed Martin, BAE Systems, SAAB Systems and Raytheon. If elected I will advocate for UniSA to disband DASI and cut all ties to the weapons industry.

Instead of supporting war, I think UniSA should support the victims of war. I will campaign for UniSA to offer scholarships and accommodation to refugees.

I believe students and staff should be valued ahead of profits.

I will advocate for free education for all, including international students who are hyper-exploited and lack basic rights to work and welfare. I will campaign against the proposed UniSA/Adelaide merger being used to cut staff and expand trimesters. As a Law student, I am sick of trimesters, and will advocate for a return to semesters.

Since I have 3+yrs IT experience, I want to help all those students who are need of help academically. I believe that for a better result in academics, we need to spread the knowledge and help the students participate in extracurricular activities which helps to interact more and feel the sense of belonging. This gives a positive vibe amongst all the students.
I would like to work for better-funded clubs with less price on products they consume and help them with all the challenges they face.
I believe that I fit well for the position which I have nominated for, by bringing the good changes in the lives of students which will have a lasting impact.

Poll Group: 2019 Magill Representatives

Poll: Magill Undergraduate Representative
Tom Gilchrist

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Policy Statement:
Governments and university administrations have increasingly come to view universities only as businesses, with students as their customers. Fees are up, especially for international students. Meanwhile, the university enters corporate deals with companies that profit from weapons manufacturing and fossil fuels.

As well as being an arts students, I'm an activist: for refugees, Palestine, LGBTI rights and the environment. As Magill Representative, I would advocated for a different kind of university.

I'll run campaigns aimed at combating racist and fascist ideas, and will campaign against the anti-refugee policies of both the Liberal and Labor parties.

I will advocate for free education for all, including international students who are hyper-exploited and lack basic rights to work and welfare. I will campaign against the proposed UniSA/Adelaide merger being used to cut staff and expand trimesters.

Policy Statement:
My name is Siying Li, you can just call me Cherry. I am a second-year psychology student. I'm nice and friendly to everyone and experienced in teamwork, communication, and event organizing.

I aim to support Magill students' sense of belongingness at Magill Campus. Recommending events and free services for Magill Campus students to have fun, making friends, get study help, and have a place to complain if meet something unfair happens.

By taking the role of a Magill Undergraduate Representative, I want to listen to students' needs and bring it to USASA board members and clubs. Essential qualities I have to meet this goal are my conscientiousness, diligence, justice, optimism, and love of learning.

Please give me your cherished vote~
