Poll: ULGA Graduate Vacancy Election Sept 2018
Colin Clarke

During my time in UL, I was extremely active in both the Students Union and Clubs and Societies, holding positions of Societies Officer, Chairperson of Student Council and Student Union President. Having already sat on Governing Authority for a year and being the prime representative for over 14,000 students, I know the difference that can be made. I fought University management multiple times to ensure that the counselling department received more resources to hire a deputy Head of Counselling, taking it to the highest level. I also spearheaded the successful referendum campaign for a new Students' Union building and sports facilities gaining 78.8% of students to vote Yes. I'm currently involved in the enhancement of the student voice with the ISSU working on campaigns including reforming Relationship and Sexual Education, the Vote at 16 movement, reforming the Leaving Cert and through sitting on the Coalition for Publicly Funded Higher Education with other education stakeholders. If elected i will be a strong advocate for students and will use my experience to represent the alumni to the best of my ability.

Dave Clarke

I believe that I would be an excellent candidate for the position for the following 3 reasons: Industry Experience & Expertise: Extensive experience working as a Data Scientist in the IoT and Manufacturing Analytics space where I develop company strategies for big data analytic solutions and services. In October 2016, I set up as a freelance consultant, providing high quality analytics services to customers within the IoT and manufacturing sector. So, I believe I have great insight into the challenges of starting a new company in the technology services space. This is insight of relevance to all university graduates. Board of Management Experience: I am a non-executive member of the board of the National Association of Youth Drama (NAYD) from 2007 to 2009. I am an industry advisor board member of the European Data Science Academy, which is an EU funded body set up to design and produce curricula for data science training and education. I was a member of the board of management of St. Pats Boys national school in Mallow, 2010 to 2012. Outlook & Youth Development: Having experienced the benefit of theatre training in developing emotional intelligence, I helped to set up a local youth theatre in Mallow, the Lightbulb Youth Theatre. Always open to mentoring of more junior consultants in my field, I have a strong commitment to training & education

Alan Dooley

As a member of the University of Limerick governing authority, I will be committing to responsible, objective and fair oversight of the University. Since Alan lives in the area, he is ideally suited to doing what is right for the University, it's staff, it's students and the community in which it exists. Alan is acutely aware of the social and corporate responsibility that an organization as large as the University of Limerick has and will be working very diligently to ensure that decisions made live up to the ideals of the University and the ideals of those who work and learn there. Developing the next generation of skilled graduates is something that is very dear to my heart. Leveraging my own fine experiences in the University of Limerick, plus my own life experiences, I wish to bring leadership and collaboration to those around me so that I can influence and drive high standards of governance. Alan has a voice. Alan can confidently assert that voice and work well with others to achieve an outcome that serves the University best. Alan also has the ability to learn quickly, acknowledge shortcomings and learn from those shortcomings. Please give Alan your number 1 vote in this upcoming election.

Sean Golden

Seán has extensive experience in the Higher Education (HE) sector from a policy/expenditure perspective from his time in the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform. If elected he will bring his experience and insight to a number issues facing UL: * Funding for the HE sector has been decreasing since the economic downturn. Seán is a firm believer in evidence-based decision making and will focus on ensuring that all expenditure has tangible and realistic benefits for all stakeholders. * Transparency has been a key issue for UL in the past. Seán is dedicated to ensuring that there are transparent processes in place when public money is spent and when an employee wishes to voice a transparency/expenditure issue. * Full time study is not for everyone but there is great value in pursuing HE. The value is realised by students and society. Seán believes in making education open and accessible to all society and removing barriers. Seán is aware of examples in this area that could be adopted by UL whereby students get practical experience, a salary and a degree from an Irish HEI. This needs to be fostered between UL and businesses in the Mid-West. Greater linkages between employers and UL will allow UL to tailor delivery of modules in anticipate future skills needs of the economy. Thank you for taking time to consider my candidacy. If you have any questions, please reach out to me.
