I believe in academia, the ever longing nature of an attentive student, striving in the field they select, chasing, thirsting for knowledge and fuelled (not just by coffee surprisingly) the desire to not only learn, but to apply the knowledge for the good of the world and a passion to succeed. Seeking and taking advantage of new and exciting experiences and avenues of stimuli to build upon ourselves as not only academics, but individuals.
Passing on this knowledge to whomever will listen and willing to learn, as is the way of the academic.

My strong morality surrounding education, a desire to gain experience and an unprecedented work ethic lead me to think I am worthy of leading and representing my fellow academics. Through my studious efforts and retaining a high standard, RUSU participations, golden key membership, Unigames participation, and a strong willingness to go above and beyond what is required I believe that I am fit for this position and I would hope that in addition to my academic record, this statement may help yo convince you of this fact.

I value progressive, open minded thinking, and encourage ideas to be expressed, reflected or brainstormed eith to and from my classmates, friends and family alike. My hobbies are of many different trades and avenues but reside prominently with a desire to progress and achieve in any which way I can, which is a direct reflection of my personality, and furthermore my application of myself in my undergraduate university degree, which majors in IT, but have been fortunate enough to branch off into minors thst focus on Marketing/Business and just recently this year, psychology, in which I attend classes at the bundoora campus which is a change of scenery from the City campus . This ability to split off from my major and explore other practices that I have always been fond of, has been rewarding to say the least and I'm greatful to have had the oppurtunity to do so.

I hope this statement finds you in good health, and that you come to agree that my candidacy is not only valid but sufficiently adequate.

Yours sincerely,
Anthony Carnell

The solving of a small problem can make a big change.
Jonathan Handojo

Hi everyone! I am Jonathan Handojo and I am studying in my sixth semester of Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) - Civil and Infrastructure. I would like to be the candidate to assist you in your studies and ensuring you that you understand all concepts taught by your lecturers. I am highly committed to giving you the best experience in RMIT.

During my experience, I have known how it is like to be left behind by so many weeks. In the lectures, I also realised how you fellow student feel when you don’t understand what is being taught in the class. We students then just sleep in the class and not pay attention anymore when we feel lost in the class. This is not what I like to see in class, giving all the negative feedbacks to the overall course. What I want is for RMIT to have an enjoyable and great learning environment and I am willing to do whatever it takes to give you students that experience.

I enjoy helping other students and fellow teammates when they come and approach me for help. I have explained concepts with many of my fellow teammates and I never have one of them leaving confused. Some of these include helping my friends with AutoCAD and doing Structural Analysis problems. I have most of my best friends and even other students who I am not close with coming and approaching me to become a teacher instead of looking forward to my future career as a civil engineering consultant (XD). Above all, assisting others is always my number one priority, and the clearer they understand, the more enthusiastic students will be in the class.

As an engineer, we are problem solvers. We identify the problems and vigorously find solutions to solve the problem at all costs. When students do not enjoy the lectures, I mostly think that it is because of the way the lecturer teaches in class. We students do not like to be in lectures that are not entertaining. Again, I know how we students hate not understanding in class and then eventually end up falling asleep. My goal is to devise ways of teaching fellow students to keep them entertained in class, and therefore create a great learning environment.

I really look forward to learning with new student and I am committed to help you achieve the best scores that you’ve always wanted to get to increase your chances of getting a job in your favorite industries.
Jordan Wallace

Hi I’m Jordan Wallace and I’ll be running for student representative to have our opinions and ideas heard by those that can make a difference. I’ll use my position as a voice for my fellow students and hopefully make an impact on their learning experience in positive way. I am very passionate about my studies and would like to further that passion by gaining insight into RMIT’s academic development. I also would like to keep the science course structure interesting for the students of the future whilst continuing to be relevant.
Kanika Mehra

I am keen to be a student representative and contribute towards the welfare of students by becoming the best version of myself.
Kushan Magedara Gamage

I believe this is a great opportunity to fill the gap between the academic staff and the students and improve the quality of education. As I am volunteering as a student learning advisory mentor I observe the difficulties students have to deal with their study materials and assignments. This would be a great opportunity to deliver the message from peer students to staff members more effectively.
Nhi Huynh

Hello everyone,

My name is Nhi Huynh. I am in my second semester of Bachelor of Engineering - Advanced Manufacturing and Mechatronics (Honours). I am nominating myself as a Student Representative for the SEH Academic Development Committee because I want to improve the course delivery method and teaching content so that everyone can make the most of their university degree.

As a student just like you are, I understand the hardship you encounter as you learn new materials. I have felt the frustration we all have when the course is not delivered in a clear and logical order as it should be to strengthen our understanding. I understand your difficulty to keep up in class when so much content is delivered in so little time for you to absorb or even ask questions. As a fellow student, I understand that some people are struggling in their studies but they do not have the courage to speak up. They do not receive the help that they deserve because they do not know the useful resources in university that provide both academic and non-academic assistance, available to all students.

That is why I am standing here, nominating myself to be one of your Representatives in 2018. I want to encourage all of you to participate in the feedback process. I want to listen to your difficulties and your ideas on improving the course. I want to help you in your academic studies not just in 2018, but also for the rest of our journey at RMIT. I believe education should be accessible for everyone. If you are a student at RMIT, I believe you should be accessible to the academic program development framework. You can contribute your feedback and propose changes to how academic materials are delivered so that you can learn effectively. Together, we can make the difference and improve student experience at RMIT.

My current experience as a SLAM mentor not only improves my understanding of student learning process and established academic assisting programs. It also shapes my character as a helpful, open minded person who is willing to help others to achieve the best in their studies. As one of your Representatives, I would be committed to contribute my time and effort to communicate your ideas to the College of Science, Engineering and Health to make positive changes.

Thank you for considering my eligibility.

Nhi Huynh
Royston Mcgavin

Hi there,

My name is Royston McGavin, and I want to change the way you learn, for the better.

My academic development here at RMIT has been nothing short of challenging, however, as part of the student body, I feel there are many areas for improvement in the way we learn, and the way are programs are structured.

Given the opportunity to be your voice on the Academic Development Committee, I will strive to empower you to make the change you want to see.

I see a RMIT where we can shape what, how and where we learn. I see a RMIT being shaped by the students, for the students. I see us shaping the quality of our learning. I see us shaping the affordability of our courses, from the travel costs, to the overpriced text books. Most importantly I see change.

Vote for me, and lets see what we can change.
Simi Gunda

If given an opportunity, I will always speak up and express what is wrong. I try my best to atleast create awareness about the situations to the staff and students. Considering majority of RMIT students are internationals I understand their situations and ensure the professors are aware of what the students are expecting and vice versa.
Last but not the least it will be very helpful if we have atleast one person to speak up from my course as there is no one at the moment.
Thanks
Sue Lyn Yap

As an international student and female in Engineering, I understand what it's like to be part of the minority. Being highly involved with many activities and organisations in RMIT has given me the opportunity to view lives of university students from many perspectives.
I understand the dedication and discipline required in cheerleading as an RMIT Cheerleader, the motivation and management skills required to be an AIESEC in RMIT committee member, the sleepless nights spent on university assignments that seem to keep piling up and the frustration experienced when trying to figure MATLAB or C++.

I express my interest in being a student representative with a focus on promoting innovation coming from the RMIT Engineering department.

As a second-year student in a double-degree in Engineering and Business at RMIT, my passion is robotic prosthetics and their deployment in rehabilitation and assistance of physically challenged children and teenagers.

The current work from the RMIT Engineering department is exceptionally innovative as well as commercially and socially valuable - As a student representative I can assist developing it further in the marketplace.

Having recently returned from a rewarding working trip to Silicon Valley and California, where I had the opportunity to meet and experience the VC sector, I have gained knowledge in workable concepts about fast-tracking the innovation pipeline and technology commercialisation from Universities, such as Stanford and USC. I believe I can be a key asset liaising between the Engineering and Business communities.
Zaher Mounla Khalil

Hi I'm Zaher and i believe there's always place for improvement academically socially and of course spiritually; this keeps my mind open to HOW a collaborative approach can make things better and i'm happy to discuss and propose our ideas as students to the academic development board, working towards a better education.
feel free to contact me on my email with your ideas; s3360044@student.rmit.edu.au

For the last year I have served as Student Representative for both my Certificate III in Individual Support and now my Diploma of Nursing. I have a passion for speaking up for those voices that are otherwise silent and advocating for the interests of my classmates. I think in a field such as Nursing, it is crucial that we are active in determining our own futures and standing up for our rights early on. I am passionate about networking with academic leaders and pursue lines of advocacy that help ensure a fair and quality education, filled with opportunity and support, for all my classmates- regardless of any preconceived limitations. I actively engage with my classmates and appreciate the feedback we share. To be a great leader is to be a great communicator and active listener and I like to think I am able to be both for the students I represent. There are so many amazing outcomes I want to see my fellow students achieve, and I strongly believe that a position such as this would further enable me to assist them them in achieving those goals.
Daniel De Jesus

I am Daniel de Jesus, a civil operation student at RMIT University. I am running for a seat at RMIT Council in order to help RMIT University becomes a better, and secure place for you. University is not only a place to study, it is also a place where students interact, socialise, find who you are and who do you want to be in the future. This is not an easy process for both students and the institution, but together we can make RMIT University your home-away-from-home. I want your concerns and thoughts to be heard by the decision makers. I want students to feel like secure, welcoming and free of threats at university's premises. Let us work together in shaping RMIT University a place to call home. I strongly believe that VE students concerns should be heard and we can be part of this change.
Jake Saville

I will look out for everyone. From the most important to the little guy. If you want something heard or changed them I'm your guy. Love God Love people.

To whom it may concern.
I have been a student longer than I would have liked. However this has given me a unique insight into how different universities operate. I have seen what works and what hasn't. I have been a student representative almost every year I have been studying, along with other representatives and having the chance to work in a team in order to bring about much needed change to several campuses was heartening to know we could make a difference. I know what is required of a student representative and also know when tutors and lectures and other such stuff need to take over. Being able to work in a team is paramount and bring students opinions forward to a public forum is also an important skill. I intend to bring all my skills that I have learned and gained in order to to do the best job I can.
