Born 1968
First connected to the internet in 1989, offering ISP-like-Services since 1991 Since 1995 managing director and founder of the regional ISP regio[.NET] (now regio[.NET] Upstream GmbH&Co KG) Since 1997 Member of the DE-CIX Working Group and actively involved in the process of founding the DE-CIX GmbH Elected 2003 as one of the Spokesmen of the DE-CIX Working-Group Since 2003 Member of the Advisory-Board (now Customer Advisory Board) of the DE-CIX Management GmbH
Why I run for a position in the Advisory-Board of DE-CIX ? Since I was elected Spokesman and Member of the Board, I supported DE-CIX to develop from a medium-size Internet-Exchange to what it's now - the largest IXP worldwide.
One key factor about 10-12 years ago was to define a new philosophy - and a Marketing Strategy, so I was involved in the strategy to open the DE-CIX for ISPs and Carriers in East-Europe, and I also helped to establish a new presence in Hamburg, the work-ix (Now DE-CIX Hamburg).
I was the first DE-CIX Representative who regularly started to attend international Meetings like NANOG, Apricot, etc. to help DE-CIX to gain more international visibility - and to establish and keep contact with international members. My goal is to help the DE-CIX grow while keeping the philosophy of being a member-driven internet-exchange, not a pure commercial entity. That's why I also helped to establish regular Meetings for the Members (Tech-Meetings, nowadays Customer Summits) and to bring the members closer together.
DE-CIX (or to be exact - the sister companies) nowadays developed to be a multi-national company, so it’s a key feature to preserve the philosophy of being member-focused in the german home-market. I like to continue this work - and make especially sure that the voice of smaller ISPs will be heard. I can contribute a lot of experience from my work at various fields of the life on an ISP and also from my work for the DE-CIX board since day one.

Zaid is also co-founder and former chairman of San Francisco Bay Area chapter of Internet Society and currently customer advisory board member at Deutscher Commercial Internet Exchange (DE-CIX).
I am interested in helping DE-CIX because I believe DE-CIX has grown to be one of the healthiest Internet exchange in the world. During my first term as a DE-CIX advisory board member I have had the honor and privilege to advise DE-CIX on its business direction, particularly its franchise model of growing exchanges around the globe. I believe DE-CIX has been very successful in growing exchanges globally and I am interested in helping DE-CIX grow further in new markets. I also hope to use customer interest to help DE-CIX add more to its current business model to provide more innovative services to its current and future customer base.
