MP urges web vote against war18mar03 TASMANIAN Federal Labor MP Harry Quick has urged his fellow MPs to vote against war on Iraq via an internet site. Mr Quick, the deputy opposition whip, posted a placard on a net site set up to allow politicians to have their say on national issues. The site - the Dome of Conscience - is a website for federal parliamentarians to cast a regular online conscience vote on any issue. Mr Quick's placard is entitled 'I am opposed to the war against Iraq'. "Today the Australian prime minister joined America and Britain in war against Iraq," Mr Quick said in a statement. "And I urge all members in the House and Senate to vote in the Dome of Conscience on this vital issue so that Australians can judge MPs and senators on where they stand. "History will recognise your integrity and honesty." The Dome site is www.domeaust.com. Dome founder Ralph McKay said the collective conscience of the parliament would become transparent as more parliamentarians participated in the Dome. "It's a window into the parliament that will engage the public in the political process," he said. |
