19 March 2003 Harry Quick MP launches online Iraq conscience vote Harry Quick, Federal Member for Franklin, the anti war dove, yesterday put the placard “I am opposed to the war against Iraq”, on the Parliament's online Dome of Conscience. In the House last night he challenged all MPs and Senators to join the online conscience vote. People are surging to the website to see how elected officials are responding. “Today the Australian Prime Minister joined America and Britain in war against Iraq and I urge all Members in the House and Senate to vote in the Dome of Conscience on this vital issue so that Australians can judge MPs and Senators on where they stand. History will recognize your integrity and honesty,” said Harry Quick The Dome can be seen at www.domeaust.com. It’s a high security website for federal parliamentarians to cast a regular online conscience vote on any issue. All votes are transparent and can be traced with a single click to elected officials who vote. “As more parliamentarians participate in the Dome of Conscience the collective conscience of the Parliament will become transparent. It’s a window into the Parliament that will engage the public in the political process. Democracy will be stronger,” said Dome of Conscience founder Ralph McKay. The Dome works with short statements called placards. Any parliamentarian can submit opinion placards on any issue at any time. Every elected official has an equal opportunity to set the agenda. All placards compete continuously for votes from MPs and Senators and are ranked live in the Dome leaderboard for all to see.
