BigPulse invites politicians to show their placards

Sydney 15 October 2001 – BigPulse.com is inviting all federal members and candidates to participate in a poll that promises to produce a concise expression of where the parties stand on all issues.

"This is an invitation for politicians and candidates to vote for transparency, honesty, clarity and respect for democratic values before asking the public for their vote," said McKay.

It’s an innovative polling method that uses no questions, surveys or pollsters.

Each party has been given a separate page in the website www.bigpulse.com just for their members and candidates to submit their big issue placards for publication in a table in the page. Placards are short concise opinions or ideas on any subject. Each member or candidate is also invited to vote anonymously every day for their ten top placards. The placards are ranked live according to votes received for all to see.

"It will produce a straightforward and coherent expression of the collective opinions and ideas of each party – enabling the public to compare the parties at a glance," said BigPulse founder Ralph McKay.

The polls appear in a category called "The Parties – their placards". They are password-protected so that only federal politicians and candidates can submit placards and vote. However the public can view the placards and the number of candidates voting for each placard.

The polling method was first adopted by the ACT branch of the Australian Democrats in May this year. The Democrats are inviting people to vote in the BigPulse Main Board poll open to the public – the results are fed live to the ACT Democrats website.

BigPulse uses a polling method known as "organic" polling. Because the method uses no questions or surveys it removes the pollster from the equation. The voters set the agenda – not a pollster. Organic polling also enables mid-range and up and coming issues to get a voice. Anyone admitted to the poll can submit a placard at anytime. The polls run continuously as they harvest placards and votes from the poll group.

BigPulse offers private and public organic polls for any group that asks. It only takes one person in a group to initiate a private BigPulse poll. The rank and file get a democratic voice.
